This skill of language plays a vital role especially for those in higher education since establishing an appropriate voice and having fluency through the discourse of writing can help them communicate their thoughts more easily and naturally. Considering the value of academic writing for EFL students in all fields of English, the present study intended to investigate the possible effect of the use of lexical bundles on the students\u2019 writing quality and also to find if there was any relationship between the frequency use of lexical bundles and the participants\u2019 writing scores.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The participants consist of fifty postgraduate Iranian EFL learners, divided into two groups. Both groups were asked to write an opinion essay about the same topic except that one group (control) was not informed about the use of lexical bundles while the other group (experimental) was. The results, obtained via using Pearson product moment correlation formula and independent samples T-test, revealed that there was a positive effect of the frequency use of lexical bundles based on the participants\u2019 writing quality.<\/p><p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">CHAPTER ONE<\/span><\/p><p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">INTRODUCTION<\/span><\/p><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">1.1 Preliminary<\/h4><p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Writing, an important language skill, which calls for both conscious efforts and a good deal of practice in composing, developing and analyzing ideas (Myles,2002) has gotten more significant role in EFL setting these days.<\/p><p style=\"direction: ltr;\">In reality, EFL learners have to struggle not only with the content, but with a wide variety of other factors including organization, vocabulary and grammatical items, discourse of the text and so on among which lexical bundles might have a significant role to play in order to make the text more coherent.<\/p><p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The study of fixed expressions has been the focus of attention for more than half a century since the term \u2018collocation\u2019 was popularized by Firth (1951). Many researchers have devoted their study to this aspect of language; yet, the aspect of lexical bundles especially in the matter of speaking and writing discourse is pretty new.<\/p><p style=\"direction: ltr;\">According to Pang (2010), lexical bundles which refer to a sequence of three to four words recurring frequently in corpus based discourse are often overlooked by L2 writers mostly due to specific difficulties that they face in establishing a credible English academic voice in their writing and speaking. Lexical bundles which are neither complete grammatical units nor idiomatic in meaning are so common and perform such definable discourse functions that their role in the writing and the comprehension of academic prose cannot be ignored (Pang, 2010).<\/p><p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Biber (2006) categorized lexical bundles under three essential functional rules: stance expressions, discourse
